JURASSICA XVI

Betliar - Slovakia

JURASSICA XVI conference will be held on October 8.–10. 2025 at Betliar, Slovakia. The conference is open to all researchers and people interested in stratigraphy, palaeontology, sedimentology, geochemistry and tectonics of Jurassic complexes. It aims at the exchange of new ideas between Slovak-Polish and international participants, and at the presentation of new geological discoveries and results of studies on Jurassic deposits, inseparably linked to Triassic and Cretaceous strata.

The Jurassica conference was organized in numerous localities in Poland and Slovakia. We would like to present the Jurassic geology related to the Meliata Ocean and mélanges with emphasis on sections and localities which are crucial for reconstruction of tectonostratigraphic history of the Inner Carpathians zones, where global and regional sedimentary events have been documented. In the area of the Inner Western Carpathians, outcrops in Lower Triassic to Upper Jurassic marine sediments of both shallow and deeper marine environments, deposited in the Meliata Ocean, can be observed. In addition to the complex depositional conditions, these sediments are characterized by significant Jurassic-Cretaceous tectonic activity associated with subduction, closure of the Meliata Ocean and subsequent formation of the accretionary wedge. This gave rise to the characteristic mélange structure of the complexes. We invite you on an amazing and exciting cruise through the Meliata Ocean.

Volumina Jurassica

We would like to offer you to publish your research in the journal VOLUMINA JURASSICA. Whether in the form of pre-conference extended abstracts or regular articles.

Volumina Jurassica is a peer-reviewed international geological journal edited by the Polish Geological Institute – National Research Institute and the Faculty of Geology, University of Warsaw, and supported by the International Subcommission on Jurassic Stratigraphy (ISJS) of the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), devoted to publication of original research papers on all aspects of the Jurassic System including its boundaries with the Triassic and Cretaceous. The editors of the journal are scientists who study the Jurassic System and are from both editorial institutions. The editorial advisory board represents an international assemblage of specialists who are well known experts in different fields of the Jurassic System, including those which closely concern the ISJS – thus ensuring a close relationship between the editorial policy of the journal and the activities of that international organization. The journal is intended to be an international forum for the exchange of information on the Jurassic System all over the World.
